How: As a long time client of Baytek’s, we knew CAPCORP intimately. Even so, we facilitated a key messaging and strategy session to really understand where CAPCORP wanted to be. From there, we developed a corporate brand and website that allowed them to stand head and shoulders above the competition. As part of the rebrand, we also took all of the corporate photography, including abstract imagery and headshots.
Who: Located within the highly desirable Golden Triangle District of Ottawa, Coachman Apartments offers affordable urban rentals to those looking to experience the downtown-living lifestyle. Bordered by Elgin Street’s restaurants, bars and boutiques to the east, and the picturesque Rideau Canal to the west, the location also boasts parks, nearby transit and historic landmarks such as Parliament Hill and Confederation Park.
How: Beginning with an involved strategy session, we discovered the key audiences for Coachman and built out a brand and website that would engage with them and result in new inquiries. With a focus on elegance, we moved from the image of the coachman to the horse – the beautiful beast that is pulling the coach. Combined with the modern typography and colour palette, we have put together a brand that defines the downtown-living lifestyle.

How: When Armourer’s Choice™ approached Baytek for web & branding, we were excited to accept a new creative challenge. We developed their branding and custom designed and built a WordPress one page website. Useful in a multitude of scenarios, Armourer’s Choice™ is easily accessible and conveys all information needed in an easy to understand manner. Versatile from earth to space, their new logo is recognizable and functional in all aspects of the brand and market.

How:Ashcroft Homes, an existing client, approached Baytek to design a one page website for this one of a kind building. Showcasing specific units and enviable amenities, this website allows potential lucky buyers to receive all the necessary information at their finger tips. We are very proud to have created a truly luxury-styled website for one of the most luxurious and highly sought-after upcoming buildings in Ottawa. Our recent social outing saw the “brave” ones of our team bow up over at Archery Games. It was a lot of fun, even though I think the management team was getting particularly harsh treatment! To finish off the day we headed over to Hometown Sports Grill for post-game beers and snacks.

How: When the National Trust for Canada approached Baytek to completely revamp their website and system, we couldn’t wait to take on the challenge. We created a custom platform on WordPress so historic places could create an entry for their site(s) and enter all its information, photos, videos, social media, events etc., and for the users it allows them to search and filter based on geography and other criteria. With the huge rise in popularity of smart speakers over the last couple of years (nearly a quarter of US households now own one), signalling a potentially visual-less future, what could the implications be for the web design industry? As we start to turn to Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant for our answers, will we ever need to click, tap or type on a screen again? Well, we can’t predict the future, but we can have an educated guess.
Think about how would you describe your company, is it something you see or feel? There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to what kind of imagery to choose for your web site. Web sites have come a long way and having an impactful design can certainly help you achieve your goals.
Illustration is an incredibly versatile tool that often comes in handy to compliment a key message or to simply and clearly get the narrative of your website across. It accomplishes multiple roles; like clarifying and decorating! It permits you to demonstrate a certain element, phrase or section and really pull everything together and add custom flair to set you apart from the competition.
There are a few different interpretations of what one would consider custom web design, and the same can be said for the self-builder approach. For the purpose of this article I’m going to group services like SquareSpace, Wix and Weebly into the “self-builder” bucket, and “custom” as hiring a web developer to build you a website from scratch.
This is quite a common dilemma for companies and organizations about to undergo a redesign (or in some cases, a first design) of their website. The technology of these self-builders has got to the point where you can put some pretty decent designs together yourself, without much help at all. So why hire a web design agency?
